Entry 28:
The Seven Habits of a Highly Effective Teens, allowes students to learn of the things that each of them should be done to do well in school as well as life. By expressing how to be more productive by keeping assignments written down, and staying organized. It also teaches how to learn healthy habits that will help overall in a working situation, like how to deal with others and have a positive out look to what is going on in most situations. I also learnt things about me, finding out that I have a win-lose mind set and that I need to change my way of thinking to help myself as well as others. Some of what I’ve learnt about myself was hard to hear, but I believe that it may help me in the long run. I learnt that we have to find a balance, allowing you to work hard, as well as relaxing. It’s easy for me to get caught up in work, to spread myself to thin and forget about myself every now and then, but it’s important to put in time for just me as well as others.
I was careful to write down what was required of me in order to keep everything in order and schedule out what I need to do. Writing a mission statement helped me keep my goals in mind, this helped because it’s easy to get caught up in the little every day things, I think that a mission statement helps you remember that the future is not some far off distant thing, but something closer than imagined. I think I’ve gotten better at staying organized, in the end this helped me keep focus, and turn things in on time. I enjoyed the cartoons but really I didn’t read it for that, but for the ideas within it. These ideas helped me reflect on myself and decide what habits I have to change to help myself.
I enjoyed some aspects of the books, such as the stories and the helpful tips, I though didn’t care for a lot of it, he was trying too hard to make it something for children but all and all I don’t think he needed to, we may not be counted as adults, but we are intelligent and can easily read a book without pictures. I also didn’t like that there were so many things that were irrelevant to the text, such as drawings and quotes. I would’ve liked it to be relevant and make more sense than it did.
I still have to work on keeping a win-win mentality. It is going to be a lot of work but I believe it will be worth it. I tend to slip into a win-lose idea when I am not trying to stay positive, I also need to work on working with others instead of doing all of the work. I am aware of these problems and will work hard to improve this. I would recommend this book. Though I believe that most of this is obvious ideas, instilled in people’s minds at a young age, it helps you keep the end in mind, stay focus, and remember the important things in life. I believe that all and this entire book was very helpful, especially when keeping in mind that I am going to college soon and would like to start off on a good note. This book helped me, and I now know how to keep on this road and stay productive.
